NGSPA Wins: R-U Champion,
Amateur Shooting Dog, Quail Championship
AKC Field Wins: 1st
Place Open Gun Dog; multiple All Age placements
Wow! This Championship was not in our plans for Jake when he was whelped.
As most people know, Kelley and I are focused on field trialing in AKC and
American Field events, and competing in the show ring has not been a
priority. It has always been our contention that the All Age field trial
dog must have good conformation in order to compete at the level we compete
with our dogs. Jake has proved the preceding statement.
This title is the
result of the insistence by our friend, Fred Cohen, that Jake had what it
takes to finish in the show ring, and the superb handling of Karen Newman.
Fred did a great job harassing me into trying the ‘show ring’, and Karen
Newman did the rest!
In my mind, Jake is,
first and foremost, an All Age field trial dog. Clearly, we are excited
about the real chance to put a ‘Dual Championship’ title on Jake. This year
will be a focus year for Jake. His sire won the National Championship in
2003, and Jake’s campaign (field) suffered. It is now Jake’s turn to be the
focus of our efforts – we expect great things from him.
